Citizens positively value that three-year-old children enter school

Santo Domingo.– The Government announced that, starting from the next school year 2025-2026 which begins on August 25th, public schools in the country will receive students from the age of three. The measure seeks to expand the coverage of the national education system and take an important step towards universal early childhood education. The Last Minute cameras went out into the streets to find out the opinion of the citizens, who believe that it will make life easier for families and will represent an economic relief.

“That’s fine, really. That way you save on paying someone to look after the kids, or paying for school. You save about 40% of your salary. That should have been implemented a long time ago,” said Marcos Peguero.

However, other citizens showed reservations about the measure, mainly due to the age of the children. “Too little. A three-year-old in a school has no defense. At five or six years old, more or less, but at three years old you’re still carrying them around,” warned Narcisa Polanco. During the same announcement, the Government also informed that, through Ordinance 02-2025, the subject of Moral Education, Civics and Citizen Ethics will be officially incorporated into the national curriculum, as part of the commitment to comprehensive training from the earliest ages.
