DNCD seizes 11 pounds of marijuana camouflaged in solar panels in Santiago
Santo Domingo.- Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and members of the Public Ministry seized two solar panels with eight packages of marijuana hidden in part of their structure, in an inspection carried out at an international shipping company located in the city of Santiago.
The DNCD said this Monday that its operational units, by instructions of the prosecutor and assisted by canine units, moved to the aforementioned company, where they located a box with the photovoltaic modules, inside which some inconsistencies were noted.
After initiating the inspection protocol, the panels were opened, occupying a total of eight packages lined with aluminum foil and wrapped in plastic sleeves with a preliminary weight of 11 pounds.
“This is another method used by international drug trafficking networks to try to evade the controls established by the authorities,” said the organization in a statement.
According to the manifesto, the box with the two contaminated solar modules was sent by an individual with an alleged address in Doral, Florida, United States, and would be received by a man in a company in the La Herradura sector.
The Public Ministry and the DNCD are deepening investigations in relation to the frustrated drug shipment, while continuing to redouble actions to detect these new modalities of criminal networks.
