DR hands over another Dominican to the United States accused of cocaine trafficking

Santo Domingo.- Dominican authorities through the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), with the cooperation of the U.S. Marshals Service, as part of the firm commitment to combat drug trafficking and transnational organized crime, executed the extradition order of another Dominican accused of drug trafficking in the United States. Rafael Ricardo Espinal Abreu (El Fuerte) was handed over to U.S. officials at Las Américas International Airport, (JFPG), who transferred him on a commercial flight to that nation.

The 54-year-old Dominican, handed over to the U.S. authorities by decree 372-25, was captured on Carmen Natalia street, San Pedro de Macorís, following an arrest warrant issued by the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice. Espinal Abreu is wanted by a court in the Southern District of Florida, which accuses him of conspiracy to possess, distribute, and import five kilograms or more of mixtures containing a detectable amount of cocaine, in violation of Title 21 of the United States Code. The authorities of the Dominican Republic maintain close collaboration with allied countries, which translates into the success of the operations of the search and capture efforts for fugitives linked to drug trafficking and other crimes.
