Santo Domingo.– The Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (Edeeste) recommends that its customers take the necessary measures so that children and adolescents avoid flying kites in areas where there are power lines, as well as not using technological equipment such as tablets, video games, and cell phones while they are charging.
Edeeste points out that, although they may seem like harmless actions, these practices represent a serious danger to people’s safety, potentially causing severe burns from electrocution and, in the worst-case scenario, loss of life.
The distributor especially suggests that parents and guardians guide minors regarding the danger of flying kites near power lines, as the string can make contact with energized cables and cause electric shocks capable of causing serious or fatal injuries.
Edeeste also calls for avoiding the use of electronic equipment plugged into the power supply while wet or in water, the same precaution that applies to any device connected to electricity inside the home. Likewise, it asks to use original cables for charging equipment, since counterfeit or generic ones are not manufactured to guarantee the safety of the devices.

Likewise, the electric company asks users to take appropriate measures during this school holiday season so that children avoid climbing onto the roofs of homes to fly kites, and at the same time, to stop using practices such as charging devices on the bed or on soft surfaces, which increases the possibility of the equipment overheating.
It should be noted that the company is taking this opportunity to make this call following a case that recently occurred in the Nazaret sector of the Higüey municipality, La Altagracia province, in which two minors suffered severe burns after receiving an electric shock while they were flying a kite and it made contact with a power line.
Additionally, remember another case presented last February in the La Otra Banda sector of the same municipality, in which a 14-year-old minor died from electrocution while she was using her cell phone sitting in a metal chair.
