The exhibition will bring together for the first time at the National Theater students from the 18 educational regions of the country
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Education (MINERD) announced the celebration of the National Gala of the Arts Modality, an event that will bring together for the first time at the National Theater more than 2,000 students from the country’s 18 educational regions to showcase their talents in music, dance, theater, film, photography, visual arts, and artisanal production.
The activity, which will begin on June 13th, constitutes the final exhibition of the training process for students in the Arts Modality at the secondary level, an educational offering that currently benefits more than 17,800 young people in 110 educational centers. During a press conference, the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, highlighted that art is a fundamental tool for the comprehensive development of students and for the strengthening of essential life skills.
“Learning does not occur solely in traditional classrooms; it is also built through artistic expressions. It is not possible to form well-rounded citizens without taking into account the knowledge, skills, and values that are developed through art,” the official expressed.

The Vice Minister of Technical and Pedagogical Services, Ancell Scheker, explained that the Arts Modality not only enhances students’ talent, but also expands their opportunities for labor insertion. “The art modality recognizes talent and enhances it. Through it, not only is there a comprehensive development of fundamental competencies, but doors are also opened for employability,” she stated.
Scheker pointed out that this educational offer strengthens competencies such as critical and creative thinking, communication, ethics, and citizenship, while promoting values such as discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. “It is a great joy to be able to see how the youth express themselves and how it is definitely a great hope for the nation to be able to count on such talented and prepared young people,” she added.
For his part, the Director of the Arts Modality, Gelson Navarro, reported that this year’s edition will have as its thematic axis “Origin and journey of our identity: Journeys of Art”, a pedagogical proposal focused on national identity and cultural dialogue between the Dominican Republic, Italy, Spain, France, Puerto Rico and the United States.

“The arts modality is an academic offering that, in addition to academic content, teaches the artistic, cultural, and identity-related aspects,” expressed Navarro when explaining the scope of this educational program, which is developed during the last three years of secondary school.
The official highlighted that the gala is the result of an extensive student participation process that included 103 school galas and 18 regional galas held between March and May. “This gala will bring together students from across the national territory, from Pedernales, Dajabón, and Montecristi to Greater Santo Domingo, in a celebration of art, culture, and national identity,” he noted.
Educational authorities emphasized that the National Gala of the Arts Modality represents an opportunity to make the talent of Dominican youth visible and to reaffirm the educational system’s commitment to an education that integrates academic knowledge, values, cultural identity, and creative development. The exhibition will take place at the National Theater and will feature the participation of students from the country’s 18 educational regions.
