Gisselle Mancebo, “The Queen of Larimar”, receives recognition for her career and contributions

Barahona. – Amidst the most emotional applause of the day, the outstanding designer Gisselle Mancebo, known as “The Queen of Larimar”, received a special recognition for her 23 years of artistic legacy and for positioning the Dominican blue stone on international stages, including United Nations.

Mancebo, originally from Barahona, recalled that her passion was born since she was a child, influenced by her mother and grandmother, who instilled in her a love for jewelry. “I started working with Larimar as a hobby… I never imagined living off this,” she expressed with emotion.

He recounted how the Larimar went from being “a little stone found on the beach” to becoming works of art that today represent the cultural and economic identity of the province. “Working with Larimar is for me a moral responsibility. Each piece carries soul, history, and social commitment,” he said. The designer also highlighted the effort of the miners and artisans, stating that “without them, Larimar would have no life.” Authorities, family members, and representatives of the mining sector took to the stage to accompany her at the time of the presentation, describing her as “a creative pillar and a symbol of pride for the community.”

His pieces were exhibited in the central display of the event, where visitors could appreciate the evolution and artistic sensibility that characterize his work.
