Russian ambassador says embassy has no formal requests over Dominicans allegedly sent to war

Russian Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Alexey Victorovich Seredin said the embassy has not received formal requests with sufficient documentation regarding Dominicans whose relatives allege they were taken to Russia and later linked to military activities in the war against Ukraine.

Seredin said the embassy is willing to receive the cases, review them individually, send the documentation to the relevant Russian authorities and communicate the responses to the families. He said some emails containing names have been received, but the information is not enough to conduct an investigation.

The diplomat said families need to provide complete names, dates of birth, photographs and other identifying information that can be checked against Russian records.

Seredin’s statements come after relatives of Dominicans demonstrated outside the Russian Embassy in Santo Domingo seeking information about their family members. The families allege that some of the Dominicans traveled to Russia after receiving offers for civilian jobs and were later sent to military training or activities. The claims have not been officially confirmed by Russian authorities.
