Indotel and 9-1-1 launch the first phase of the National Alert System

Santo Domingo. – The executive director of the National Emergency and Security 9-1-1 System, pilot colonel Randolfo Rijo Gómez, ERD, announced the launch of the first phase of the National Alert System, a project that seeks to strengthen citizen security through the use of technology and inter-institutional coordination. During an event held at the 9-1-1 headquarters, Rijo Gómez highlighted that the new tool represents a milestone in the history of citizen protection, by allowing the sending of immediate and organized notifications to the population through Cell Broadcast technology, ensuring that each alert reaches those who need it with precision.

The system will be based on two main pillars: • The Emergency Operations Center (COE), responsible for issuing alerts related to natural phenomena and disasters.
• The Citizen Security team, coordinated by the National Police, the General Directorate of the Police and the 9-1-1 system, with the aim of locating missing persons or those in vulnerable conditions. Also, the colonel explained that the project’s innovation lies in the incorporation of specialized alerts, including:
• Amber Alert, for the location of missing minors.
• Blue Alert, for people with disabilities.
• Cyber Alert, for adults with cognitive limitations.
• Pink Alert, for cases of gender-based violence against women. “These are not simple notifications: they are a call to action for the whole society,” expressed Rijo Gómez, pointing out that 9-1-1 will assume the coordination of the information flow from the initial report to the integration of each piece of data in decision-making. The CEO of the system highlighted that the project would not be possible without the vision and support of the President of the Republic and the Public Ministry, who have placed citizen security and the protection of life at the center of the national agenda.
