Martínez Brito reports Dominican is imprisoned in Colombia in a legal limbo after being wrongly linked to investigated company

Santo Domingo. – The communicator and lawyer José Martínez Brito denounced the situation of the businessman Dayiberto Torres, a Dominican citizen who remains incarcerated in a Colombian prison, without the Dominican State having shown interest in the case, which has generated a legal limbo that violates his fundamental rights. During the program Esto no es Radio, Brito explained that the compatriot was arrested in Colombia due to an international alert, erroneously linked to an Ecuadorian company with Spanish shareholders operating in Ecuador and which is supposedly being investigated for trafficking in banana shipments to Spain.

“The Dominican Republic has not been concerned about this person, it has not had the slightest interest in verifying their situation. Ecuador has no evidence against that person, it lets them go… Spain does not conclude the extradition process,” Brito detailed. According to the jurist, neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor the Attorney General’s Office have intervened to guarantee due process or determine the detainee’s fate. The lawyer urged the Dominican authorities to act in the case and ensure that the rights of Dominican nationals imprisoned in other countries are upheld.
