Passport Director postpones delivery of the electronic passport, but guarantees issuance this year

Santiago.- The general director of Passports, Lorenzo David Ramírez Uribe, announced this Friday that the delivery of the new electronic passport, initially scheduled for the month of August, has been postponed due to adjustments in the implementation process. “We had discussed the launch this month, but like any great project, it has required changes and adjustments. However, this year we will be delivering the electronic passport, God willing,” the official said.

Ramírez Uribe explained that the postponement is due to technical modifications necessary to guarantee the success of the biometric system. Despite the delay, he assured that the document will be a reality before the end of 2025. The announcement was made during the inauguration of a new Passport office at the Preferential Services Center Puntos GOB in Santiago, an initiative that seeks to decentralize and improve access to high-demand public services. During the activity, the governor of Santiago province, Rosa Santos, was present, who highlighted the importance of this new office and valued the initiative as part of President Luis Abinader’s commitment to bring the State’s services closer to the citizenry.
