Higüey. – The General Directorate of Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep) delivered this Monday the remodeling of the Higüey Art House and the Paseo de los Colores, two initiatives aimed at strengthening the cultural, educational, and recreational spaces of the province as part of its urban revaluation program.
During the event, the director of Propeep, Robert Polanco, explained that both works respond to commitments made by President Luis Abinader during the “The Government With You” initiative, held last year in La Altagracia to learn firsthand about the needs of the communities.
Polanco indicated that representatives of the cultural and artisanal sector requested support to improve the conditions of the Art House, as well as the delivery of equipment and instruments that would allow for the expansion of the training and artistic activities carried out in that space.

“We decided to intervene in the infrastructure to ensure that the equipment could be used and maintained properly. Today, Higüey has a renovated and equipped House of Art to continue promoting local culture,” he expressed.
Equipment and structural improvements
In addition to the remodeling, Propeep delivered projectors, mobile screens, guitars, trumpets, congas, microphones, tamboras, drums, speakers, furniture, and air conditioning equipment to strengthen the province’s cultural activities.

The works included roof waterproofing, improvements to bathrooms and windows, installation of new floors, and replacement of doors, with the goal of offering a safer, more modern, and functional space for artists, students, and cultural managers.
Paseo de los Colores transforms public spaces
As part of the initiative, the Paseo de los Colores was also inaugurated, an urban art intervention that covers more than 5,760 square meters and includes improvements to the Hermanos Trejo Educational Center, the Sueños de Colores playground, and more than 38 spaces located in its surroundings.
A mural dedicated to the historical memory of La Altagracia was painted at the educational center, featuring tributes to prominent figures in communication, culture, community leadership, and public life in the province.

Meanwhile, in the Sueños de Colores playground, murals inspired by childhood, nature, Taíno culture, and national history were created with the purpose of fostering learning, coexistence, and cultural identity.
Authorities present
The activity was attended by the governor of La Altagracia, Daisy de Óleo; the mayor of Higüey, Karina Aristy; deputies Carmen de la Rosa and Onavel Aristy; as well as representatives from the cultural, community, and educational sectors of the province.
The authorities highlighted that these interventions seek to strengthen cultural development, promote local identity, and recover public spaces for the enjoyment of the entire community.
