Santo Domingo.- The senator for the province of Monte Plata, Pedro Tineo, indicated this Wednesday that the United Nations (UN) has no moral standing to accuse the country for the deportations that have been carried out of Haitian nationals in recent months, this due to the migratory tension that exists as a result of the social and institutional crisis that the Republic of Haiti is experiencing, which has forced thousands of Haitians to move to the Dominican Republic.
“They do not have the moral standing to accuse the Dominican Republic, to accuse the government, of exercising its right to intervene in the migratory issue. They have no standing, because they have done nothing, absolutely nothing. Notice that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is telling this one that they have been negligent with the Haitian issue,” said the legislator when consulted by the media.
Furthermore, for the Senator, the issue is currently being addressed with “greater responsibility” than in previous years, in which, the legislator understands, nothing was done on the subject, for which he congratulated President Luis Abinader.

These statements from the senator come after this international organization reported during a press conference yesterday, Tuesday, its concern about what they consider serious humanitarian and human rights problems surrounding deportations by Dominican authorities of some 900 pregnant or breastfeeding Haitian women in the last month.
