Garrigó stated that the initiative experiences an improvement every year
Santo Domingo.– The Secretary General of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Juan Garrigó, assessed this Saturday the impact of the “Plastics for School Supplies” campaign and considered that the initiative developed by the National District City Hall should be replicated in other municipalities of the country.
During the third edition of the activity, Garrigó highlighted that the program combines environmental protection with direct support for families, by allowing them to exchange plastic bottles for school supplies for the back-to-school season.
“Every year this activity improves, every year it is more organized, every year with better results,” expressed Garrigó, who highlighted its impact on education and environmental awareness, as well as the economic relief it represents for households.

The political leader assured that the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, is working on the development of a type of protocol that allows sharing the experience with other mayoralties and facilitating its implementation in different parts of the national territory.
“Of course,” he replied when questioned about the possibility of replicating the event, while expressing his desire that the plastic exchange dynamic could be extended to other initiatives for the benefit of citizens.

Garrigó pointed out that similar programs could use the collected plastic as an exchange mechanism for other useful items, following experiences such as “Plastics for Toys” and the current school supplies drive.
In his view, expanding this model would contribute to generating a culture in which citizens recognize the value of plastic waste and actively participate in its proper disposal.
The initiative, he maintained, seeks to “give value to plastic, keep our streets and our ravines clean and take care of the environment,” while generating benefits for families.
Plastics for School Supplies
The National District City Hall is celebrating this Saturday the third edition of Plastics for School Supplies, with a large security detail made up of around 400 uniformed officers to guarantee order and the well-being of the attendees.
To participate, it is mandatory to present an ID card indicating that the person resides in the National District. Likewise, for every thousand small plastic bottles, they will receive a backpack with an electronic tablet and a thermos, with two being the maximum number of backpacks per ID card.
So far, more than 37 million small plastic bottles have been removed from the streets and rivers, thanks to Carolina Mejía’s vision to implement Plastics for Toys and Plastics for School Supplies.
The third version of Plastics for School Supplies is made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Banco Popular, Propagas, Propagas Foundation, Grupo Ramos, Industrias Bisonó, Constructora Bisonó, Fiducorp, Rica, Susaeta, Industrias San Miguel, Farmacias GBC, Café Santo Domingo, McDonald’s, Seaboard, and Planeta Azul.
