Santo Domingo.- The National District City Hall managed to collect 4,023,865 plastic bottles during the sixth edition of Plastics for Toys, held this Sunday at the Municipal Palace under an atmosphere of order and security.
With this figure, the program (which also includes Plastics for Schoolchildren) reaches a cumulative total of over 37 million bottles, consolidating itself as the largest environmental awareness initiative in the country.
Mayor Carolina Mejía expressed her satisfaction with the impact of the event, highlighting the opportunity to bring joy to boys and girls through recycling. “It is a blessing to see the happy faces of our children when they receive their toys; that joy drives everyone who makes this activity possible,” she said.
Likewise, he thanked the support of the private sector and asked for applause for the collaborators for the “effort of love” that sustains Plastics for Toys 2026. In that context, the Mayor’s Office of the National District recognized Propagas, Banco Popular, Banreservas, Café Santo Domingo and Banco BHD for their constant support as allies of the city.
To ensure the well-being of attendees, more than 350 personnel participated in security and assistance tasks, with aerial surveillance, a tent for lost children, a mobile hospital, ambulances, and rescue teams. The operation was attended by the National Police, the Dominican Republic Navy, Digesett, Civil Defense, the DN Fire Department, the 9-1-1 System, the Red Cross, the Municipal Police, and other support entities.
