MicahJo Barnett, a third-year running back at William Jewell College, died after suffering a medical emergency near the field shortly after scoring a touchdown during the school’s season opener against Fort Lewis College on Saturday.
Emergency personnel treated Barnett about 20 minutes into the game before he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The university did not release additional details about the medical emergency.
Barnett had six carries for 30 yards and a touchdown when the game was suspended, with William Jewell leading 7-0.
