The Social Security Administration will send its next round of retirement benefits on Wednesday, October 14, to beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of any month and who receive payments according to the agency’s birthday-based schedule.

Some retirees could receive as much as $5,181 per month, although the maximum benefit applies only to workers who meet specific requirements related to their earnings history and the age at which they begin collecting Social Security.

To qualify for the maximum $5,181 monthly benefit in 2026, a worker would generally need to have earned at or above Social Security’s taxable maximum for many years and delayed claiming retirement benefits until age 70. Simply waiting until 70 does not guarantee the maximum payment.

For workers with the same high-earning history, the amount would be lower if benefits are claimed earlier. According to the figures provided, the maximum would be $2,969 per month for someone beginning benefits at age 62 and $4,152 at full retirement age.

The October payment schedule is based on beneficiaries’ birthdays. Those born between the 1st and 10th will receive their payment on October 14. People born between the 11th and 20th are scheduled for October 21, while those born between the 21st and 31st will receive their benefits on October 28.

A different schedule applies to people who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 and those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, or SSI.

SSI recipients received a payment on October 1 and are scheduled to receive another on October 30. The second payment corresponds to November and is being issued early because November 1 falls on a Sunday.

Beneficiaries who do not receive their payment on the expected date are advised to wait three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.
