Santo Domingo.- This year marks the centenary of the birth of the iconic Cuban singer known as “The Queen of Salsa”, Celia Cruz, and the Dominican Republic joins this important event with the show “Celia Cruz: the musical” on July 5th at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, at 8:30 pm, with a stellar team that includes Dominicans, Aidita Selman, in the line production, and the veteran actress, Lidia Ariza, who plays Celia in the last days of her life.
The story of “Celia Cruz: the musical” begins with the participation of the young actress Yelidá Díaz, who embodies Celia when she was just a teenager, then the renowned Cuban singer and actress residing in Madrid, winner of various awards including Grammys, Lucrecia, stars in this presentation, who, in the guise of the Cuban guarachera, recalls the moments of glory in the world of entertainment by performing her greatest hits.
In this tribute to Celia Cruz, Pedro Knight (her little cotton head) as the artist affectionately called him, could not be missing and will be played by the renowned actor Ramón Emilio Candelario.
This was reported by Billy Hasbún, artistic entrepreneur of Vibra Productions, who explained that the idea of bringing this musical to the country came about because it has been presented with success in Latin America and several cities in the United States and that our country should witness a spectacle of this magnitude, based on the life of Celia Cruz, an artist idolized for her passion and talent in popularizing tropical music and salsa in the world, with a legacy that includes a wide range of rhythms that have left an indelible mark on the history of music.
“On stage will be a cast of 12 dancers, 16 musicians and a cast of first-rate actors and actresses. There is music, lots of dancing, drama, passion and above all a lot of sugar, with all the energy and joy of The Queen of Salsa,” highlighted Hasbún.
In his opinion, this musical has considered all the details to achieve an excellent show, with the participation of around 30 artists on stage. “It’s a musical to enjoy a special and unforgettable night for the whole family.”

The two-hour show recreates the life of the legendary artist through multimedia resources via screens that show archive materials, videos, photographs, and unpublished personal documents. Tickets are on sale at Uepa Tickets and Boletería del Teatro Nacional.
