Shakira will offer a free concert in the Zócalo of Mexico City on March 1st

Mexico City.- The head of Government of the Mexican capital, Clara Brugada, announced this Friday that the Colombian singer Shakira will offer a free concert in the Zócalo of Mexico City on March 1, in an event organized in conjunction with Grupo Modelo on the occasion of the centenary of the Mexican brewery.

“Friends, I have great news for this city. Shakira will perform here in the Zócalo of Mexico City next Sunday, March 1st. Shakira is an extraordinary Latin artist who has succeeded in the world and whom we love very much here in Mexico”, said the president in a video released on social media.

In the message, which was shared by thousands of users, Brugada highlighted the cultural character of the event and welcomed the Colombian interpreter who, he said, is the “most beloved and universal artist from Barranquilla Colombia”. “Shakira, welcome to Mexico City, to this historic Zócalo, a stage for Mexico’s transformations and great artistic events, like the one we will have with you,” Brugada pointed out. The Head of Government reported that access to the show will be free, as in other massive concerts held in the Zócalo, in addition to giant screens being available in nearby locations such as the Alameda Central and the Monument to the Revolution. He explained that the event is sponsored by the Mexican brewery Grupo Modelo, which celebrates 100 years of global presence in 2026. For his part, the president of Grupo Modelo, Daniel Cocenzo, thanked the city government.

“We were born here 100 years ago with a brand that represents ingenuity and quality made in Mexico. Since then, Corona has promoted the best of Mexico and accompanied the celebrations of its people,” he remarked.

The concert will feature screens on streets adjacent to the Zócalo —20 de Noviembre, Pino Suárez and 5 de Mayo—, as well as in the Alameda Central and the Monumento a la Revolución, to expand the capacity of attendees in one of the most emblematic public spaces in the country. The Colombian artist will offer the free concert after closing her tour in ‘Las mujeres Ya no Lloran World Tour’ in Mexico with a final show at the GNP stadium on February 27th.

Last January, the specialized media Billboard reported that Shakira broke the Guinness World Record for the most successful Latin music tour by raising 421.6 million dollars for her tour, thus unseating the Mexican Luis Miguel.
