After communicator Giuseppe Benignini alleged that the incident in which he was involved along with other people at the Santa Fe sports club was an act of xenophobia, assuring that in the Dominican Republic he has been a victim of “hate, xenophobia and discrimination”, the club issued a statement denying that the events corresponded to an act of xenophobia, clarifying that it was only “an altercation between players”. “We emphasize that this incident was not xenophobic. We are a community made up of diverse nationalities and we are proud to be a space of complete tolerance, respect and inclusion; this situation was strictly a sports dispute that exceeded the limits of respect,” the statement indicated. The institution also highlighted that the incident involving the communicator “does not correspond to a targeted attack,” as insinuated, but rather to a conflict between players during a private match.”The match was organized by players from a private league who rented the club’s facilities for a friendly match. The incident began with a typical game-related clash between a regular player and a guest, and escalated into a physical confrontation that got out of control,” it assured.

The club emphasized that “this was not an act of xenophobia, as the confrontation arose between those who were present at the time, being part of the friendly match, and did not involve people outside the venue”, as they have “all the security mechanisms 24 hours a day and friendly and trained staff to avoid this type of incident”.

They also reiterated their commitment to “strengthen peaceful coexistence and ensure that the safe environment for our families and friends remains as usual. We are at your disposal to collaborate in whatever you consider necessary and we appreciate the trust that Santa Fe has given us over all these years.” The statement issued by the club seeks to deny that this type of behavior is normal and tolerable in those sports facilities.
