British singer Harry Styles has spoken out about the shooting of Dominican migrant Oscar Bergal by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the Bronx, calling for respect, dignity and justice for people regardless of their background.

“Remember your friends, people you love, people who don’t look like you and aren’t born where you’re from. They deserve respect and love and dignity and justice,” Styles said.

Bergal was shot by ICE officers during an attempted arrest in the Bronx. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, agents used two vehicles to block his car and ordered him to get out. Authorities said he accelerated into the ICE vehicles, prompting officers to open fire because they believed their lives, the lives of their colleagues and the public were in danger.

The incident has sparked controversy and renewed debate over immigration enforcement in New York City. Styles’ remarks add to the public response to the shooting, which has drawn attention to the treatment of migrants and the use of force by federal agents.
