Dominican national Ángel Carrasco, 31, has been arrested in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend, Nathaly Ramírez, 23, who allegedly fell from the 15th floor of an apartment building in the Bronx alongside their eight-month-old daughter. Carrasco was taken into custody Wednesday after being sought by authorities.

According to local media reports, surveillance footage showed Carrasco inside and outside the building. Ramírez’s mother also identified him as her daughter’s former boyfriend. The baby remains hospitalized, but police expect her to recover.

Carrasco faces charges including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault. Investigators believe Ramírez may have protected her daughter during the fall, helping the infant survive.

The case has raised further concerns about a reported history of domestic violence between the couple. Police had responded to the apartment at least twice in January. In one incident, Carrasco was accused of slapping Ramírez during an argument. Days later, he was accused of forcibly entering her apartment, although that burglary case was later dismissed. Police reportedly documented four domestic violence complaints involving the pair.

Friends and former classmates gathered outside the building Wednesday night to honor Ramírez with flowers and candles. Her friend Dominique Rosado remembered her as a cheerful, athletic young woman who encouraged others and was known for lifting people’s spirits.
