The death toll from flash floods and landslides along the China-Nepal border has surpassed 1,000.
Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported 987 deaths and 3,916 people missing, including 583 foreign nationals. Meanwhile, Chinese authorities reported 16 deaths and 546 people missing in their latest update.
The disaster began on August 26, when a massive landslide or avalanche of ice and rocks high in the Himalayas near the border with Tibet triggered devastating flash floods and landslides, sweeping through towns and villages.
