Donald Trump suggests renaming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean to the ‘Trump Ocean’

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested renaming either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean, floating names such as “Trump Ocean” or “Ocean of the Americas” during a campaign rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Saturday, October 10.

“We need a river, we need an ocean. So, I was thinking of either the Atlantic or the Pacific,” Trump told supporters, adding that he had considered calling it “Trump Ocean” or “Ocean of the Americas.”

Trump revisited the idea after previously raising it during an executive order signing ceremony on August 27. He also referenced earlier efforts to rename geographical landmarks, including the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

While the U.S. government has the authority to change names on domestic maps, Trump cannot require other countries or international organizations to adopt the proposed changes, according to the Associated Press.
