Pope Leo XIV will not need treatment after having his lung cancer removed

Pope Leo XIV will not require any further treatment after the successful removal of an adenocarcinoma in his lung, as confirmed by definitive histological examinations, the Vatican Press Office reported this Thursday.
“Today, the results of the histological and molecular biology tests performed on the material removed during the Holy Father’s surgery have been published,” states the Holy See’s communiqué.
The note, signed by the pontiff’s personal physician, Luigi Carbone, and the head of the surgical team, Stefano Margaritora, specifies that the tests confirmed it was a lung adenocarcinoma and that the disease was “localized”.
“A subsequent oncological evaluation confirmed that no further treatment was necessary,” the communication concludes.

The Pope resumes his agenda
Pope Leo XIV resumed meetings this Wednesday and boarded the popemobile to travel through St. Peter’s Square among the faithful for the general audience, after having undergone surgery on October 13.
The pontiff was discharged last Saturday from the Gemelli Polyclinic and reappeared this Sunday at the Angelus prayer in the Vatican, where he explained that he would resume his activities gradually.
“Thank you for your support, for your prayers, thank God for his generosity. Let us all renew our trust in the goodness and mercy of God,” said the 71-year-old Pope as he began the general audience.
For the moment, the Vatican continues with preparations for the Pope’s trip from November 6 to 17 to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru, and in the coming days there are also other audiences on the agenda.
