The Trump administration has arrested nearly 380,000 immigrants in the U.S. since January 2025

Washington.- The Donald Trump Administration has arrested 379,000 immigrants between January 20, 2025 and January 20, 2026, assured this Tuesday the interim director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Todd Lyons.

In a hearing before the United States Congress, Lyons explained that among the detained immigrants “there are more than 7,000 alleged gang members and more than 1,400 known or alleged terrorists.”

The director of the immigration agency assured that ICE “maintains its commitment to the fundamental principles that those who enter our country illegally must be held accountable.”

The appearance in the House of Representatives comes at a delicate moment in the Trump Administration’s immigration policy, which has had to ease the tension of the raids in Minnesota due to the citizen response after the death of two Americans due to shots fired by federal agents.

In addition, Democrats maintain their refusal to approve funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) unless some controversial aspects of its immigration control policies are modified, such as agents only being able to enter homes with a warrant signed by a judge or prohibiting or limiting agents from using masks or covering their faces. If they don’t reach an agreement with the Republicans before the weekend, the department will enter an administrative shutdown.
