Trump calls Abinader “a great man” and praises U.S. ambassador to Dominican Republic

U.S. President Donald Trump praised Dominican President Luis Abinader and highlighted the work of U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Leah Campos during a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at the White House on Wednesday.

Trump said during the event that he had asked Abinader whether he would like a change in the U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic. According to Trump, Abinader responded by asking him not to make such a change, which the U.S. president presented as an indication that Campos was doing a good job.

Trump then addressed Campos directly, saying she was doing very well and that people were talking about her work. He also referred to Abinader as “a great man” during his remarks.

Campos was presented among the ambassadors attending the White House celebration and was accompanied by Dominican Foreign Minister Víctor Bisonó, according to the report.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also attended the event. The White House scheduled the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration for September 30 in the East Room.
