Two Venezuelan brothers, Winder and Deivi Delfín, 15 and 17, survived Monday’s devastating earthquake in Colombia, less than two months after surviving deadly earthquakes in their home country of Venezuela.
The teenagers had moved to Colombia with their father, Deivid Delfín, 44, hoping to rebuild their lives after a previous disaster killed their mother, younger brother and grandmother. According to The New York Times, the family was still recovering from that trauma when the earthquake struck Colombia.
Their father was away from home when the earthquake hit. Terrified by what was happening, he rushed back to look for his sons and eventually found them safe. The teenagers had run out of the house when the shaking began.
The family remained outside their home afterward because they were afraid of additional tremors. Despite the trauma, Deivid expressed relief that his sons were alive: “We are here, alive.”
