Jeter and Rodríguez criticize errors and lack of discipline in the Yankees; Boone responds

During the FOX broadcast prior to the MLB Speedway Classic, both pointed out repeated errors and an apparent lack of discipline as factors that are costing victories.Rodríguez, for his part, pointed directly to the team’s current culture: “If any of us made a mistake, we went straight to the bank. Now I see error after error and there are no consequences.” The third baseman also questioned the rotation, warning that even the recent bullpen reinforcements won’t help if the starters don’t deliver longer outings:“They make too many mistakes, and you can’t get away with making so many against big teams,” Jeter affirmed. “Today they had errors on the bases… you can’t keep doing it, you have to correct it.”
“I don’t care if you bring back the 1998 bullpen with Mariano, Mike Stanton, and Jeff Nelson. If your starters are pitching 3.1 or 4.1 innings, it’s not going to work”.
Faced with these comments, manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that criticism is part of the job and that the team must raise its level:
Boone defended that there is internal responsibility, although he admitted that it is not always perceived from the outside. However, the urgency is clear: after leading the American League East Division at the end of May, the Yankees are now third with a record of 60-51, behind the Blue Jays and Red Sox. Jeter’s conclusion was blunt:“When we lose games, especially if they are related to mistakes, those criticisms are valid… We have all the pieces to be a very good team. It depends on me and all of us to get the best out of that”.
“There are no excuses. You have to play better. If you don’t play better, you’re not going to get very far”.
