Raimel Tapia and Abdiel Mendoza chosen as MVP of the Week in LIDOM

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) announced this Tuesday that outfielder Raimel Tapia, from the Estrellas Orientales, and pitcher Abdiel Mendoza, from the Águilas Cibaeñas, were selected as MVP of the Week corresponding to the period of November 19 to 23, 2025, during the fifth presentation of the awards presented by Ron Ozama.

Tapia received recognition for the first time in his career, while Mendoza achieved the 19th MVP selection for an Águilas player, the most in the history of these awards since the league took over the selection in the 2022-23 season.

Raimel Tapia Dominates with the Bat

The outfielder for the Estrellas Orientales was the most outstanding offensive figure of the week, receiving 60 votes from the 111 journalists participating in the election. Tapia batted for “.458” (11 hits in 24 at-bats), with “five RBIs”, “15 total bases”, and an offensive line of:

• OBP: .458
• SLG: .625
• OPS: 1.083

It was also the seventh time a Stars player has received the weekly award since 2022.

• Eddison Paulino (Gigantes), 6
• Johan Rojas (Gigantes), 6

Abdiel Mendoza shines from the mound

The Panamanian right fielder of the Águilas Cibaeñas received 65 votes, surpassing:

• Albert Abreu (Tigres del Licey), 19
• José Ureña (Toros del Este), 8

Mendoza had an impeccable performance: 5.0 innings without allowing hits or runs, with one walk, four strikeouts, a WHIP of 0.20 and a perfect ERA of 0.00 during the evaluated period. He is the third Panamanian to win the award, following in the footsteps of Paolo Espino (2023-24) and Johan Camargo (2022-23).

Celestino and Gavin Recognized for the Previous Week

In the ceremony held in the Seventh Heaven of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, the best of the previous week were also honored:

• Gilberto Celestino (Toros del Este)
• Grant Gavin (Leones del Escogido)

Celestino received his award from Jesús Mejía, general manager of the Toros, while Gavin was recognized by the director of the Leones, José Gómez Frías. LIDOM also presented special recognitions to journalists José Antonio Mena, Marcos Sánchez and José Ramón Genao (Moi), as part of the weekly distinction program for communicators from the interior of the country.
