Scherzer controls, Guerrero defines: Blue Jays beat Cubs

United States.- The Toronto Blue Jays once again showed the formula that has them as leaders of the American League: solid pitching and timely power. This Thursday, at the Rogers Centre, Toronto defeated the Chicago Cubs 2-1, thanks to a dominant outing by Max Scherzer and a decisive home run by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Scherzer, with his characteristic mark of control and competitiveness, worked for more than seven innings in which he allowed only one run —a solo home run by Michael Busch— and limited the opposing offense to weak contact. The veteran used just 73 pitches in seven innings, confirming his efficiency and leadership within the rotation. The blue offense awoke in the seventh inning. With a powerful swing, Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run home run that turned the scoreboard around and secured the victory. Toronto only managed three hits in the entire game, but the Dominican’s connection made the difference. With this triumph, the Blue Jays strengthen their position at the top of the American League and move closer to their goal of qualifying directly for the Division Series, avoiding the Wild Card round. Scherzer’s recent solidity adds a key element heading into the final stretch of the season and the postseason, consolidating him as a fundamental piece in the rotation. The Canadian team maintains a firm grip on its aspiration to conquer the American League East and reach October as a heavyweight contender.
