Santo Domingo.- Dominican Major League baseball player Junior Caminero, of the Tampa Bay Rays, sparked controversy by sending a threatening message during a live broadcast on his Instagram account, directed at MLB insider Michael Rodríguez, known as Mike Deportes.
In the middle of the live, Caminero directly expressed: “Send this to Mike Rodriguez. As long as I’m in Tampa, you don’t set foot in that clubhouse.”
The third baseman’s statement comes after Mike made a series of public statements about the player’s training process, specifically related to his time at different academies in the Dominican Republic.
In a message spread by the insider, he assured that Caminero was in the Banana academy between 9 and 12 years old without cost, and that the institution would have covered the expenses of his tournaments.
He also indicated that at the age of 13, the player would have left with Rudy Santini, who, according to Rodriguez, later disassociated him.
He added that Caminero returned to Banana with an arm injury, but that there were already other more advanced players, so they recommended that he continue his development with Ventura.
“One must speak the truth, it wasn’t from the Banana academy that they kicked you out,” Rodríguez wrote in his post.
So far, the Tampa Bay Rays and MLB have not issued an official position on the incident, while the situation continues to generate repercussions in the Dominican sports arena.
