Dybantsa, 19, from Brigham Young University (BYU), confirmed the predictions that placed him among the top talents of this generation. The 2.06-meter-tall player was introduced by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver at a ceremony that brought together the top prospects in world basketball.
n” “n“It means a lot. It is just one more step and there is still a lot of work to be done, but it is the result of the effort, discipline, and sacrifices made,” expressed Dybantsa after becoming the first pick of the draft.
n” “nThe capital franchise is betting on the young small forward as a fundamental piece of its sports project, seeking to return to the forefront of the league after several years of rebuilding. The Wizards had not had a number one pick since 2010, when they selected John Wall.
n” “nThe second pick of the Draft went to the Utah Jazz, who selected Darryn Peterson, one of the great figures of college basketball after standing out with the University of Kansas. In the third position, the Memphis Grizzlies bet on Cameron Boozer, son of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer.
The ceremony also generated expectations due to the participation of international talents such as the Spaniard Aday Mara and the Mexican Karim López, considered among the main foreign figures available in this edition of the Draft.
n” “nThe 2026 draft class is considered one of the deepest in recent years, with several players projected to become future NBA stars.
