Pistons tie the series against Orlando and Thunder take a 2-0 lead in the NBA playoffs
MIAMI. — The Detroit Pistons responded with authority at home by defeating the Orlando Magic 98-83, tying their first-round series in the NBA playoffs 1-1, while the Oklahoma City Thunder prevailed again and took a 2-0 lead against the Phoenix Suns.
In Detroit, point guard Cade Cunningham led the offense with a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds, solidifying himself as the key figure of the match. After a balanced first half that ended tied at 46, the Pistons made the difference in a dominant third quarter, in which they widely surpassed Orlando 38-16.
The home team imposed its strength in the paint, where it took a 54-34 advantage, in addition to having a more solid collective contribution, with five players scoring in double digits, including Isaiah Stewart off the bench. For the Magic, Jalen Suggs was the most outstanding with 19 points and six rebounds.
With this result, Detroit secured its first home postseason victory since 2008 and ensured that the series will extend to at least a fifth game, now with the upcoming commitments in Orlando.
In the West, the Thunder maintained their home dominance by defeating Phoenix 120-107. Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shone with 37 points, nine assists, and five rebounds, leading an offense well supported by Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, both with 19 points.
The team led by Mark Daigneault controlled the pace of the game and knew how to maintain the lead against a Suns team that had Dillon Brooks as their top scorer with 30 points.
The series will now move to Phoenix, where the Suns will try to react and prevent Oklahoma City from extending their dominance in the series.
