The Chicago Bulls will retire Derrick Rose’s jersey in 2026
Chicago (USA). – The Chicago Bulls officially announced that they will retire the number 1 jersey of Derrick Rose, one of the franchise’s greatest legends, on January 24, 2026 at the United Center, in a special ceremony after the game against the Boston Celtics.
The tribute will include a commemorative event in the atrium of the venue, where fans can relive the most memorable moments of the point guard who marked an era in Chicago.
Rose was selected by the Bulls as the first pick of the 2008 Draft and quickly became the face of the franchise. In 2011, he achieved one of the most important milestones of his career: becoming the youngest player in NBA history to win the MVP award, at just 22 years old.
During his eight seasons in Chicago, the explosive point guard won over the fans with his electric playing style and offensive ability, leaving an indelible mark despite the injuries that marked his career.
The player announced in September 2024 his retirement from the NBA after 16 seasons, and in January 2025 he received a special recognition from the Bulls at the United Center.
Rose’s jersey will be the fifth to hang in the rafters of the United Center, alongside those of Jerry Sloan (4), Bob Love (10), Michael Jordan (23) and Scottie Pippen (33).
“Derrick represents the spirit of Chicago: talent, effort, and resilience. His legacy will be eternal in our franchise,” the organization highlighted in a statement.
