The Timberwolves will retire Kevin Garnett’s number 21 after years of estrangement

United States – The Minnesota Timberwolves and Kevin Garnett, undisputed legend of the franchise, reached an agreement to retire the number 21 worn by the former player, in a ceremony to be held within the next two seasons, ending a relationship marked by years of tensions between both parties, according to ESPN.

Garnett retired in 2016 as a player for the Timberwolves, the franchise where he began his sports career in 1995 and spent 14 of the 21 seasons he played in the league. The player had not allowed his jersey to be retired due to a conflict with the team’s former owner, Glen Taylor, according to the aforementioned network. The sale of the team last June to a group that includes former baseball player Alex Rodriguez eased the relationship and Garnett agreed to soon take on a role as an ambassador for the Timberwolves.

A Stellar Trajectory

The power forward has been the only Minnesota player to win a regular season MVP. In addition, he holds the majority of statistical records for the Timberwolves: he leads the ranking in games, points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks, among other merits. Although he never won the ring in Minnesota, with him the franchise qualified for the ‘playoffs’ eight consecutive seasons, but never made it past the second round.
