Chris Froome hospitalized in France after being hit by a car while training
Saint-Raphaël, France. – British cyclist Chris Froome, four-time winner of the Tour de France, was hospitalized this Wednesday after being hit by a car while training near Saint-Raphaël, according to the French newspaper L’Équipe.
The Israel-Premier Tech team rider was airlifted to a medical center in Toulon, where he remains under observation. His team has not yet issued an official statement on his health status or the extent of the injuries.
Froome, born in Kenya in 1985, is going through what could be the final stretch of his professional career. With a record of seven Grand Tours (four Tours, two Vueltas a España and one Giro d’Italia) and a total of 46 victories, the Briton is considered one of the most successful cyclists of the last decade. His last great triumph dates back to 2018, when he was crowned in the Giro d’Italia.
Following his departure from Team Sky/Ineos in 2020, Froome signed for Israel-Premier Tech in 2021, where he is currently in the final year of his contract. Although he has not officially confirmed whether he plans to retire at the end of the season, the accident reopens the debate about his continuity in the peloton.
