SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican boxing team definitively secured eight medals at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, after the bracket of athletes qualified for the tournament’s semifinal rounds was completed.

With the bronze medals already guaranteed and no possibility of increasing the total number of medals, the national team’s focus is on transforming that harvest into silver and gold medals during the decisive phase of the competition.
The president of the Dominican Boxing Federation (FEDOBOXA), Rubén García, explained that, although the delegation practically matched the podium production of the previous cycle—falling just one medal short of the nine obtained in San Salvador 2023—the true objective now is to improve the quality of the results and climb positions in the medal table by discipline.
“There is no longer room to seek more medals in quantity; the eight we have are definitive. Now the challenge and the clear goal of our delegation is to transform those bronzes into gold and silver. What is in our hands is to improve the quality of the medals to surpass the overall position we achieved in the previous edition,” stated García.
The leader highlighted that the semifinals represent the key moment for the national team, as each victory will guarantee a silver medal and open the doors to competing for the Central American and Caribbean champion title in each division.
The coaching staff is confident that the competitive level shown by the Dominican boxers will allow them to surpass the performance achieved in the 2023 edition and consolidate the country among the main regional boxing powers.
The performance of the delegation in Santo Domingo 2026 reaffirms the tradition of boxing as one of the most successful disciplines in Dominican sports. The legacy built by historical figures such as Manuel Herrera, Félix Díaz, and Joan Guzmán finds continuity in a new generation led by Yunior Alcántara, Cristian Pinales, and the rest of the members of the national team, who will face the semifinals with the firm purpose of advancing to the finals, winning gold, and having the notes of the National Anthem played in the Dominican capital.
