Libertadores and Sudamericana finals generated US$110 million for Peru and Paraguay
ASUNCIÓN. – The finals of the Libertadores and Sudamericana cups played in 2025 in Lima and Asunción left an estimated economic impact of 110 million dollars for Peru and Paraguay, reported this Tuesday the president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), Alejandro Domínguez.
Through a message posted on the social network X, the leader highlighted that the organization of these events transcends the sporting sphere. “When a final is played, not only one team wins,” Domínguez pointed out, referring to the economic and tourist benefits generated by the host venues.
The final of the Copa Sudamericana, held on November 22 at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asunción, was won by Lanús, who defeated Atlético Mineiro in a penalty shootout (5-4). On the occasion of this match, the National Directorate of Migrations of Paraguay reported the entry of 24,023 visitors to the country.
A week later, Flamengo won its fourth Copa Libertadores by defeating 1-0 Palmeiras at the Monumental stadium in Lima. Thanks to this title, the Brazilian club obtained revenues exceeding 33 million dollars, becoming the institution with the highest earnings in the continental scope during 2025.
According to Conmebol data, in 2025 US$209,090,000 in prize money was distributed for the Copa Libertadores and US$78,775,000 for the Sudamericana, the highest figures in the history of both tournaments and an increase of nearly 400% compared to a decade ago.
Domínguez had pointed out last December that the sustained increase in revenue contributes to the strengthening of South American football. “Resources improve, competitiveness increases and a continuous growth cycle is generated with a very favorable trend for the region’s football,” he affirmed.
