Italy.- Just three days before the start of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the athletes staying at the Fiames Olympic Village exhausted the 10,000 free condoms made available by the organization. The information was revealed by a high-performance athlete, under anonymity, to the Italian newspaper La Stampa.
The record consumption left the organizers in an uncomfortable situation, so they promised a new replenishment of contraceptives, although without specifying the exact arrival date. According to reports from
The Athletic, around 2,871 athletes are participating in this edition, a figure much lower than the more than 10,500 who competed in the Paris 2024 Summer Games.

The free distribution of condoms is an Olympic tradition dating back to 1988, driven by the International Olympic Committee as part of a campaign to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and promote health. It was only interrupted in Tokyo 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In comparison, during the
Paris 2024 Olympic Games up to 300,000 condoms were distributed among the athletes. For Milan-Cortina, the initial amount proved clearly insufficient. Despite the restrictions on visits in the accommodations, the so-called “relaxation room” became a popular meeting point.
