Abinader highlights Manzanillo Power Land as key to energy security and development of the country’s north

Montecristi. – The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, assured that the inauguration of the Manzanillo Power Land plant represents a project of faith, hope, and development, driven by national entrepreneurs with the support of the government. During his speech, Abinader highlighted that the work is strategic for the public policy of the electricity sector, especially in the northern region of the country, and will allow to balance the electricity generation, currently concentrated in the south, guaranteeing stability and reliability to the system.

“This area is going to become the main electricity generation zone of the Dominican Republic,” he stated.

The president also highlighted that the government is working on the incorporation of energy storage batteries and the integration of renewables, strengthening the reliability of the system in the short and medium term. In addition, he mentioned the approval of the electric cable to Puerto Rico, which will allow exporting energy and taking advantage of renewable generation during the day.

Abinader indicated that the energy project is just one piece of a broader development plan for Montecristi, which includes the construction of a multimodal port, free zones, tourism projects, and improvements in agricultural infrastructure, benefiting the production of rice, bananas, and salt. “Montecristi is going to have unprecedented development in the Dominican Republic,” he affirmed, highlighting the generation of quality jobs and the strengthening of the local economy. Finally, the president congratulated the company’s shareholders, recognized their perseverance, and highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration to ensure the sustainable growth of the country.

“We are confident that the Dominican Republic will continue to move forward, overcoming and solving any problem that the international external sector presents,” he concluded.
