“An Hour of Tranquility”: a comedy about everything spiraling out of control

Santo Domingo.- In the midst of the fast-paced rhythm of daily life, finding a moment to disconnect seems increasingly difficult. That simple desire, to find a little peace, is precisely the starting point of “A Bit of Peace and Quiet” (Una Hora de Tranquilidad), the comedy by renowned French playwright Florian Zeller that comes to the stage under the direction of Pepe Sierra.

The story follows Miguel, a man determined to quietly enjoy a jazz album he just bought. However, what should be a moment of absolute calm becomes the complete opposite: interruptions, conflicts, and unexpected situations transform his longed-for hour of tranquility into increasingly hilarious chaos.

For Sierra, the work finds in humor a way to connect with a deeply human experience: our endeavor to control circumstances, even when everything seems to conspire in the opposite direction.

“This is a piece to have fun and laugh at how we try to have control of things and many times we cannot. That is the goal of this play,” noted the director.

Sierra also highlights the theater’s ability to offer the public a space for enjoyment and disconnection from the worries of daily life. “Creating theatrical pieces that manage to entertain, provoke genuine laughter, and relieve the weight of everyday life for a moment is one of the greatest pleasures I can enjoy as an artist,” he expressed.

“An Hour of Tranquility” is the second theatrical production by Bougroup, following the success of “The Truth,” which completed 12 sold-out performances.

The cast is composed of José Guillermo Cortines, Nashla Bogaert, David Maler, Vicente Santos, Graciella Dietsch, and Yasser Michelén.

“Una Hora de Tranquilidad” (An Hour of Tranquility) will be presented on September 18, 19, 25, and 26, at 8:30 PM, in the Manuel Rueda Hall of the School of Fine Arts building. Tickets are available through Uepa Tickets.
