Authorities arrest two men for alleged rape of a minor in Barahona

In an event that has dismayed the municipality of Paraíso, in the province of Barahona, the National Police arrested two men linked to the alleged sexual assault of a girl of just 12 years old.

Incident Details

According to preliminary investigations, the main suspect (a 33-year-old man) would have used deceit and seduction to move the victim and her cousin to his residence, where the abuse allegedly occurred. The report indicates that:
  • Victim’s condition: The minor, with initials M.P.J., is hospitalized at the Dr. Jaime Mota Regional University Hospital due to physical complications resulting from the assault.
  • Those involved: In addition to the two detainees, the authorities reported that a third involved party (a minor) is currently a fugitive.
  • Intimidation reports: The girl’s family has publicly denounced that relatives of the accused are trying to obstruct justice through bribes and threats, seeking to have the complaint withdrawn before the Children, Adolescents and Adolescents Court.

Next Legal Steps

It is expected that this Thursday the detainees will be presented before the Permanent Attention Services Office, where a judge will hear the request for a coercive measure to determine their responsibility in this serious crime.
