Members of the General Customs Directorate (DGA) detected about US$350,352.00 dollars that a passenger tried to bring into the country without the corresponding declaration upon arriving at the Cibao International Airport.
That amount is equivalent to about RD$20.9 million pesos, at the current exchange rate.
The detection was possible with the use of non-intrusive inspection equipment operated by DGA personnel at the terminal, who noticed an irregularity in one of the passenger’s luggage.
Following this discovery, both the Public Ministry, in coordination with the General Customs Directorate (DGA) and other state security agencies, are conducting the corresponding investigations, in order to determine responsibilities and exhaust the procedures established by law.
The General Customs Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to the surveillance and control of the flow of goods and values at all ports and airports in the country.
