DR participates in global drug summit in Nashville, Tennessee

Santo Domingo. – The president of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), Vice Admiral José M. Cabrera Ulloa, highlighted the role that the Dominican Republic has played in the regional fight against drug trafficking and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strategic alliances, as well as the exchange of information to address the problem of the global illicit trade in narcotic substances. By participating in the 39th International Drug Control Conference (IDEC XXXIX), which took place from August 26 to 28, 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee, the head of the anti-narcotics agency stated that the threats of drug trafficking force us to rethink our plans, actions and challenges in the face of the rise of synthetic drugs. “I want to highlight the leadership of the Government of President Luis Abinader Corona, in the fight against drug trafficking and transnational organized crime; it has been a laudable and unprecedented effort that demonstrates the commitment of the Dominican Government to dismantle the illicit operations of these criminal groups.” During the event, the head of the DNCD met with Dan Salter, deputy chief of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and also participated in plenary sessions, workshops and bilateral meetings, which will allow for the expansion of alliances and strategic plans for the prosecution and fight against drug trafficking in the Caribbean region. This conference, established in 1983, is considered the most important global forum in the fight against drug trafficking, each year bringing together the heads of drug control agencies from more than 130 countries, with the aim of analyzing emerging threats, sharing strategies and strengthening international cooperation. DEA RECOGNIZES DNCD’S WORK AND REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT AGAINST DRUG TRAFFICKING IN THE REGION Special Agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the Caribbean region, Michael A. Miranda, highlighted that the participation of the president of the DNCD, Vice Admiral José M. Cabrera Ulloa, in the 39th International Drug Control Conference, reflects the firm commitment of the Dominican Republic in the fight against drug trafficking. “We recognize the exemplary work of Vice Admiral Cabrera Ulloa and the leadership of the DNCD, which have been fundamental in advancing our common goals. The DEA Caribbean Division reaffirms its commitment to continue working side by side with the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, strengthening our strategic alliances to protect our communities and safeguard the Caribbean region against transnational organized crime.”
