Cleveland, Ohio.- The Cleveland Guardians received a hard blow this Saturday upon the confirmation that their main offensive star, José Ramírez, suffered a fracture in his left hand during the game in which his team defeated the Detroit Tigers 3-1.
The injury occurred at the beginning of the fifth inning when the star third baseman hit the ball and felt discomfort in his hand. He subsequently underwent imaging tests that confirmed a fracture of the hamate bone, reported Guardians manager Stephen Vogt.
Although the team did not offer a timeline for his return, Ramírez will remain out of action indefinitely while he evaluates options for his recovery.
The absence of the Dominican player represents a significant loss for Cleveland, which loses its most iconic player and one of the organization’s offensive leaders. Ramirez, 33, has been selected to the All-Star Game seven times and is considered the face of the franchise.
This is barely the second time in his career that an injury of this type has forced him to be absent for an extended period. In 2019 he suffered a similar fracture, although in his right hand, a situation that kept him off the field for more than a month.

Before the injury, Ramirez was batting .238, with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs in the current season.
The physical problems did not end there for the Guardians. During the same game, outfielders Chase DeLauter and Angel Martinez also left the match. DeLauter suffered a right rib cage contusion, while Martinez sustained a contusion after being hit by a ball on his foot.
The organization now faces the challenge of remaining competitive without its main leader on and off the field, while waiting to know the exact time Ramirez will need to return to the lineup.
