Santo Domingo. – Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) leaders Miguel Campos Guerrero, a candidate for the Presidency of Constituency No. 1 of the National District, and Alexis Puello Encarnación, a candidate for the General Secretariat of that district, expressed their disagreement this Thursday with the delegate election method approved to choose the party’s new authorities, arguing that such a mechanism limits the participation of the leadership and the grassroots and creates uncertainty regarding the legitimacy of the process.
Both leaders, allies of the Renovation Project that promotes the candidacy of Elías Hasboun for the Presidency of the PRM in the National District, affirmed that the strength of the party has always rested on the democratic participation of its membership and on transparent, open, and reliable internal processes.
During a press conference, they pointed out that the main concern lies in the fact that the delegate method mutilates the possibility for party majorities to express themselves through the vote and, even if they were to accept the proposed method as positive, it has not yet been clearly reported who will make up the body of delegates that will exercise the right to vote, nor what the definitive criteria for its integration will be, a situation that, in their view, must be clarified in a timely manner to preserve the trust of the leadership.

Likewise, they recalled that the current party authorities were not chosen through an ordinary convention, which is why they understand that the current process represents an opportunity to strengthen the institutional framework of the PRM through clear rules and mechanisms that expand the participation of the membership.

Miguel Campos and Alexis Puello maintained that the new authorities must be elected for their work capacity, their closeness to the grassroots, and their commitment to the permanent strengthening of the party, promoting a more dynamic, participatory organization that is present in every community.
They indicated that one of the main challenges for the PRM consists of reactivating its structures, promoting the inclusion of colleagues in party life, and contributing to ensuring that leaders with experience and merit can be integrated into the various State institutions, strengthening the bond between the party and the government.
Finally, they called on the party leadership to ensure that the internal process becomes an example of party democracy, convinced that a strengthened, united PRM, legitimized by the trust of its leaders, will represent the best support for President Luis Abinader’s administration and for the future of the organization.
