Higüey. – The bishop of the diocese Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia,
Monsignor Jesús Castro Marte, assured that in the Dominican Republic there are women with the necessary preparation to assume the Presidency of the Republic, while calling not to relegate the province of La Altagracia from national priorities.
During his homily on the occasion of the Day of the Virgin of Altagracia, Castro Marte highlighted the strength of the country’s democratic leadership and affirmed that both men and women are capable of exercising the highest magistracy of the State. “There are men who can be presidents of the country, but there are also women who can become the first president of the country. There are many women prepared to assume the power of the State,” he said.
The prelate also urged that major investment decisions take into account Higüey and the entire province of La Altagracia, highlighting its historical, social, and economic weight, as well as its contribution to national income. “Invest in the province of La Altagracia, do not forget this province,” he pointed out.

Upon concluding the mass, Monsignor Castro Marte descended from the pulpit and greeted Carolina Mejía, secretary general of the Modern Revolutionary Party and mayor of the capital; Vice President Raquel Peña; as well as the First Lady, Raquel Arbaje; the mayor of Higuey, Karina Aristy, as well as other leaders and political leaders present at the religious celebration, a gesture that was interpreted as a recognition of the growing role of women in national public life.
The bishop’s statements were made in a context of reflection on public service, ethical leadership, and the strengthening of the Dominican democratic process, on one of the most important religious and symbolic dates in the country.
