Trump backtracks and will not charge the 20% fee to ships transiting through Hormuz

Washington.- U.S. President Donald Trump announced this Tuesday that he will ultimately not charge the 20% fee he had proposed for facilitating the transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz and assured that, instead, the Persian Gulf countries have committed to investing in the United States.
“After very productive conversations with leaders in the Middle East, I have decided to replace the 20% U.S. reimbursement rate with trade and investment agreements that the various Gulf States will make in the United States,” the president detailed on the Truth Social network.
Trump had announced on Monday that the United States would reimpose a naval blockade against vessels leaving or arriving at Iranian ports, and that it would charge a 20% tax on vessels from other countries to facilitate their passage through the strait.
In his message this Tuesday, the Republican said that “the Strait of Hormuz is open to all maritime traffic, except that of Iran,” whose leadership he accused of being “liars, violent, and malicious.”
Iran ratifies that it controls the Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian Army asserted today that the Armed Forces will not yield “an inch” regarding the Strait of Hormuz, after Trump proclaimed himself the “guardian” of that maritime passage, which is key to global crude oil trade.
The United States and Iran have been exchanging attacks in the Persian Gulf since last week, which ended the ceasefire agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding of June 17 to end the war and unblock the strait
