During a luncheon organized by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (Amchamdr), the United States Ambassador to the country, Leah Campos, stated that the administration of President Joe Biden exerted political pressure on the Dominican government to keep the border with Haiti open.

Fields explained that, during that period, the United States was facing a significant increase in the arrival of undocumented citizens, including people with criminal records or without the intention of integrating into American society. According to the diplomat, this scenario generated internal tensions in Washington, which led to pressure on the Dominican Republic in terms of border control.

The ambassador emphasized that the political climate in the United States directly influenced the expectations and requests directed to the Dominican Government, especially regarding the management of the border and the migratory situation in the region.
