Raphy Pina’s supervised release: Probation recommends maintaining it until 2027

Puerto Rico.- Raphy Pina’s supervised release must be maintained until July 2027, according to a recommendation submitted to the Federal Court by the United States Probation Office (USPO), which opposed the music producer’s defense request to end the restrictions early.

The federal agency’s position is stated in a motion submitted by Probation Officer Sugeily Rivera Suazo. The statement responds to the petition filed by Rafael “Raphy” Pina Nieves’ attorneys for the court to terminate the period of supervised release related to his conviction for illegal possession of firearms before the established date.

According to the information presented to the court, the Probation Office found no grounds to justify reconsidering the duration of Raphy Pina’s supervised release, which is scheduled to expire in July 2027.

As part of her evaluation, Rivera Suazo pointed out the producer’s judicial background. The official indicated that, before receiving the 2022 federal sentence for the weapons case, Pina had served another sentence related to a previous proceeding.

That precedent corresponds to 2015, when the music industry businessman pleaded guilty to bank fraud and subsequently completed the sentence imposed in that proceeding.

In the most recent case, Pina was sentenced in 2022 to 41 months in prison, in addition to three years of supervised release. This latter period began after completing the incarceration portion of the sentence.

The defense is seeking for the court to authorize the early termination of those conditions. However, the Probation Office recommended that Raphy Pina’s supervised release continue according to the originally established schedule.

With the filing of the motion, it will be up to the Federal Court to evaluate the parties’ arguments and determine whether to maintain supervision until July 2027 or grant the producer’s lawyers’ request to conclude it before that date.
